Former Scandal actress, Kgomotso Christopher, stars in the new steamy Netflix series called Fatal Seduction, which unravels entanglements, secrets, passion, unrequited love, mental health and so much more! Kgomotso is someone who has been on our screens for years, whose career and life outside of work—private as it may be— we have followed throughout the years.
Portraying the role of Nandi Mahlatsi, Kgomotso Christopher shared in an exclusive interview with Nounouche. When she first read the script, she was head over heels for her character because she tells a very intense, empowering tale of a woman who is messed up, both vulnerable and strong. “We have to be allowed to have our mess as women in every humanly possible way. I don’t think that it makes us any less admirable or whatnot. It makes us very human,” the actress said.
Fatal Seduction was a passion project for the actress. In addition to that, she said that viewers who have been in relationships that are significant to them will be able to relate to the series because her role takes audiences on a riveting journey into the depths of human emotions, love and betrayal. “When Nandi spends a fateful weekend away, she meets an alluring tempter who ignites her deepest passions and exposes past lies and secrets of those closest to her,” the press statement reads. For Fatal Seduction, exploring marriage and infidelity through the lens of modern attitudes toward strong women, mental health disorders and coercive control to a certain degree appears to be the point.
Her character is extensively developed much like her co-stars Thapelo Mokoena who plays Leonard Mahlatsi and Prince Grootbom portraying the character of Jacob Tau. As with the series, it shows Nandi and Jacob embarking on an all-consuming affair leaving her husband Leonard behind to scrap for all the tiny bread crumbs. Forging a connection with her co-stars was easy, says Kgomotso, because the two actors get on so well, respect each other’s craft and possess similar attributes.
With a flourishing career and the power to choose which projects she wants to be a part of, Christopher said “I’m very much content and in control of my own life and feel empowered as a woman and as a person.” Adding on to the fact that the series has too many sexually explicit scenes, Christopher gave insight into how she gets to trust her co-stars fully with such scenes and deliver the best. “We all understand that to tell our stories we have to give all of ourselves whether it’s a physical or sensual stunt. We use our bodies as resources and on top of that, we had incredible intimacy set co-ordinators.”
For all her years of experience and familiarity with starting a major project, she interestingly notes that it remains both an incredible adrenaline rush and a daunting journey for her. “I’m very much content and in control of my own life and feel empowered as a woman and as a person,” she told us. Best known for her ground-breaking television roles, in this new series Kgomotso says she was very intentional about her role and hopes the audience will resonate on the most stunning scale. The talented actress said Fatal Seduction will put South Africa on the map!
Kgomotso Christopher stars with Lunathi Mampofu, Prince Grootbom, Thapelo Mokoena, Nat Ramabulane, Ngele Ramulondi, and Frances Sholto Douglas. Fatal Seduction was filmed in and around Cape Town and produced by Ochre Moving Pictures. Steven Pillemer who is best known for his work in The Brave Ones, Justice Served and Shaka iLembe, is credited to be one of the writers and is the creator of Fatal Seduction.
