The much-awaited action thriller iNumber Number: Jozi Gold is finally streaming on Netflix. In an exclusive interview with Nounouche, Brenda Ngxoli, Sdumo Mtshali and Noxolo Dlamini break down the intensifying fight scenes that make the movie so entertaining, the heart of the film, and more.
If you’re an action thriller fan like myself, you’ll most likely know that the first franchise of iNumber Number was released 10 years ago. The film stars Sdumo Mtshali who plays the lead character Chilli Ngcobo and Presley Chweneyagae who plays Shoes return as the cop duo fighting against their newest enemies. The storyline follows an undercover cop who investigates the biggest Johannesburg gold heist, risking it all to infiltrate the gang and is faced with a mind-bending choice between the law and his own morals.
Speaking of his experience in returning to the franchise, Sdumo Mtshali who is no stranger to massive, action-packed films said iNumber Number Jozi Gold was more thrilling for him because it features some of the most intense action scenes he’s ever done — including the most detailed fist fights, car chases and guns blazing. “Coming back for the sequence felt like coming back home and I think this time around we went for a more broader scale of action, more in depth storyline and we hope everyone will welcome it with open arms,” Sdumo Mtshali explains.
Noxolo Dlamini who plays the character of Dimo says she hopes that her character mostly highlights acts of kindness and most importantly family unity. In some of the scenes, the characters dressed as hobos to carry out their shenanigans and Mxolisi Nodom says that was mostly to highlight their Sotho culture with the blankets. “Shooting those stunts in those costumes brought back a part of where we come from and that was an exciting element to it.” Adding on to that, Mxolisi says that he can still remember the “adrenaline rush” of perching on the top of those flat platform trolleys — and he hopes it gets the audience’s blood pumping as well.
Building upon the success of its predecessor years ago, this film delivers an adrenaline-fueled experience that leaves viewers on the edge of their seats from start to finish. The South African film thriller is written and directed by Donovan Marsh. While the action sequences are engrossing, the storylines are notably more captivating. In a conversation with Israel Matseke Zulu, he mentioned that the experience of moving from being one of the lead actors to being an associate producer and music supervisor for the film production is certainly one of the biggest achievements for him.
The lead characters include Brenda Ngxoli, Sdumo Mtshali, Kgosi Flietor, Presley Chweneyagae, Deon Lotz, Bongi Mantsai, Noxolo Dlamini, Clementine Mosimane and more effortlessly embodies the complex natures of their characters. The sense of authenticity, outstanding performances from the cast and stunning visuals elevates the overall viewing experience.
