#TravelTuesday: Tips to Pack Light this Holiday Season

The holiday season is upon us, and that can only mean one thing – it’s travel time! But, before enjoying all the fun which your trip has to offer, one of the most critical steps after all the planning is packing. While it is often a nightmare to many, packing can be a breeze if you know the right hacks. Here are a few tips to help you pack a little lighter this holiday season.

Consider the weather and choose neutral colours.

Checking the weather forecast for your chosen destination can make your suitcase way lighter. When you know what kind of weather to anticipate, you can avoid packing unnecessary jackets or raincoats. Moreover, choosing neutral colours will enable you to put different outfits together without the stress of having to fit your entire wardrobe into a suitcase. Mix and match tops and bottoms of simple colour palettes for several outfit combinations. Do not forget to add a colourful item or two for occasions that may require a more vibrant look.

Slim down on the toiletries

When it comes to toiletries, it is essential to take only that which you will need. For example, if you leave for only one week, there is probably no need to pack four bars of soap. Also, try to bring sample-sized items, as these are smaller and will save you some space. When it comes to things such as liquids and lotions, consider transferring them into smaller travel tubes or storage bottles.

Learn folding and packing techniques.

Learning to fold your clothes compactly can be a game changer. Rolling certain items may save you more space than folding them. You can also pack clothes in a bundle to make a bit more space. An added advantage to the bundling method is that smaller items can be wrapped with bigger clothing items such as jackets and hoodies. It is also important to pack while there is still time. Packing while in a panic increases your chances of stuffing items into your suitcase that you most likely will not need.

Pack multipurpose shoes

Depending on the kind of trip you are taking, you will most likely do just fine with 2 – 3 pairs of shoes. In doing this, remember to prioritise comfort at all times. Consider sneakers, as they offer versatility and can usually be dressed up or down to suit any occasion. It is also advisable to wear your heaviest pair of shoes while travelling to avoid putting them in your suitcase.
