Team South Africa’s Medal Triumph at African Games!

Team South Africa are making waves at the African Games in Accra, Ghana, clinching 16 medals on Sunday, March 10, bringing their total count to 29. So far, they have secured four gold medals (in badminton, cycling, and swimming), five silver medals (in cycling and swimming), and seven bronze medals (in badminton, swimming, and wrestling).

In badminton, Johanita Scholtz successfully defended her women’s singles title, while Dillon Geary finished second in the men’s cycling road race and was also honored with gold for being the top U23 rider. Swimming contributed two more gold medals (earned by Simone Moll and Team SA’s 4x100m medley relay).

In other events, Sheshnie Naidu’s impressive performance yielded four wickets for 13 runs as South Africa bowled out Nigeria for 74 in their women’s T20 cricket match. Faye Tunnicliffe’s innings of 45 runs off 34 balls propelled Team SA into the semi-finals as they chased down their target with six wickets in hand and 5.1 overs to spare.

Dillon Geary finished second to claim silver while Alexandre Mayer of Mauritius claimed the gold. Geary won the gold medal for the under-23 category because he was the leading rider across the line in that group.

Andrew Ross won his heat in 1:53.09, with Tumelo Mahan 3rd in the same heat in 1:54.83. They qualified 2nd and 5th fastest for the evening final behind Egypt’s Marwan Elkamash (1:53.07)
