Nomcebo Zikode Is A Grammy Nominee

South African artists have definitely proven that music is a global language, as their music continues to touch people in all corners of the world.

Musicians Nomcebo Zikode, Wouter Kellerman and Zakes Bantwini have been nominated for the popular Grammy Awards under the category of Best Global Music Performances for their recent single Bayethe.

Other notable nominations went to songbird Beyonce who is leading the pack with nine nominations, making her the most nominated artist of all time, tying with husband Jay-Z, both scoring 88 nominations throughout their careers.

Nomcebo told Nounouche she’s over the moon.

“Although I knew one day I would be honoured with such a nomination as it has been the ultimate goal.

“I didn’t expect it to come through this soon, I feel incredibly blessed and excited as this is a huge stamp of approval that I’m in the right path.

This accolade really means a lot up me because it puts African female artists on the map as a whole and I’m grateful that I happened to be the one to hold the torch,” she said.

Nomcebo whose career kicked off as a backing vocalist for various artists before she launched her own career and headlining global stages added that it is important to never despise humble beginnings, as you never know how far you may go.

Although she did not go into much details, the Hammarsdale-born singer who is now operating as a independent artist after having a public squabble with her former record label, also revealed that she is set to release a new album soon.

“Working independently has been incredibly but rewarding at the same time, because I have learnt a lot and I’m a better artist than before,” she shared, adding that in the near future she might open her own record label.

Nomcebo who made her mark internationally when her song Jerusalema trended told Nounouche that her life has changed drastically as now she is filling up arenas and sharing stages with international acts such as David Guetta and John Legend, something that she never thought would happen anytime soon.

“Staying close to my family has kept me grounded,” she said, explaining how she’s been able to let the fame go to her head.

Earlier last year Nomcebo launched her own foundation in which it’s main focus is  to help disadvantaged children shared that the  foundation is doing very well, and they plan of scaling our operations and touching more lives next year.

The 65th Grammy awards will take place next year in February.
