Hollywoodbets Super League Awards Spotlight Stars of Women’s Football

The stars aligned in Gauteng on Sunday evening as the 2024 Hollywoodbets Super League Awards took centre stage, shining a spotlight on the incredible talent and achievements in South African women’s football.

It was a night to remember, with Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies reaffirming their dominance and individual brilliance taking the spotlight.

The standout winner of the evening was none other than Amogelang Motau, the former University of Western Cape (UWC) captain, who bagged the prestigious Player of the Season award. Motau’s exceptional performances on the field not only helped UWC secure their third consecutive runners-up spot but also caught the attention of international scouts.

The 27-year-old recently signed with Liga MX Femenil side Club Tijuana in Mexico, a testament to her talent and impact. She triumphed over tough competition from Mamelodi Sundowns’ Lebogang Ramalepe and University of Johannesburg’s Yolanda Nduli to clinch the coveted title.

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies proved once again why they are the queens of South African women’s football. The team scooped multiple accolades, including the Team of the Season award, after an incredible campaign that saw them claim their fifth consecutive league title. Sundowns finished the season with a staggering 83 points, 27 wins out of 30 matches, an eye-watering 114 goals scored, and only 12 conceded—a goal difference that left their closest rivals, UWC, trailing far behind.

Coach Jerry Tshabalala was honoured as Coach of the Season for masterminding Sundowns’ dominance. Meanwhile, Lebogang Ramalepe was recognised by her peers and claimed the Player’s Player of the Season award.

Boitumelo Rabale, Sundowns’ prolific striker, walked away with the Top Goal Scorer award after finding the back of the net 17 times in 25 matches.

While Sundowns Ladies stole the show, other stars also had their moments of glory. Matshidiso Masebe of the University of Johannesburg Ladies was named Goalkeeper of the Season for her stellar performances between the posts.

The rising star of the evening was 15-year-old Khwezi Khoza from Durban Ladies, who captured hearts and the Young Player of the Season award.
