Mamelodi Sundowns U20 Ladies Team win the 2024 Engen Knockout Challenge

In a spectacular display of skill and determination, the U20 Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies team emerged victorious in the 2024 Engen Knockout Challenge at the Marks Park Sports Club in Johannesburg. They prevailed over the University of Johannesburg after they had won the tournament for two consecutive years. UJ ended up claiming the silver medals in this year’s Engen Knockout Challenge.

Just like in past years, the Gauteng leg of the Engen Knockout Challenge drew football enthusiasts, including prominent coaches like Pitso Mosimane and Desiree Ellis, who spent their afternoon at the event soaking in the talent on display. Among the notable personalities seen at the tournament over the weekend were Themba Zwane, Shandre Campbell, Siyabonga Mabena, and Sphelele Mkhulise, adding star power to the exciting atmosphere.

After a strategically intense 0-0 deadlock, the newly minted champions displayed unwavering poise during the penalty shootout, securing a 4-3 triumph that not only crowned them champions of Gauteng but also halted UJ’s bid for a third consecutive gold. The third edition of the Champ of Champs tournament will still take place in Soweto, but this time, the opening round has shifted to a new venue, the Number 2 Grounds in Orlando. Previously, the opening rounds were held at the Kwa-Mahlobo Grounds in Meadowlands Zone 10, with the semifinals now moving to the Moletsane Sports Complex. Adding to the excitement, this year’s tournament welcomes back crowd favorites A T Mambas FC, who made their mark in the inaugural edition.
