THE STREETS OR A HUSBAND?

So on the 1st of January 2022, I texted my sister in law, “happy new year”, she responded, wishing me the same. She then, as expected followed with a “are we having a wedding this year?” This question has been asked by various members of my family over the past five to seven years. Not that I have not been trying to get my family a wedding, believe me, I have tried all means.

Well, not exactly ALL means to get a wedding or a husband, just means to be partnered. I love relationships. I have done the obvious online dating, holiday flings, friends with benefits, talking stages, side dish, you name it. All in the hopes that it might possibly lead to an actual relationship. And for most of my teenage years and 20s, I had been in some kind of “lasting” relationship situation. However, in the past two years, I have actually been very single. Much to the dismay of my friend who has always teased me about the fact that I am never single.

If only my family knew that the possibility of an in-law keeps drifting away. Let me share a few situations of my dating life in the past few years. One, an online talking stage, that lasted a bit longer than it should have. I met the guy, I liked him, I just don’t think he liked me as much. So I stayed online. I will leave when my family has a son in law, please.

Two, a fling with a man who was somehow convinced that I needed him to feed me. Imagine!

Three, there was a holiday fling from Belgium, who the following year wanted to come back so we can travel Southern Africa together, I was not interested, he wasn’t happy (story for another day).

And Four, a recycling of the same old person, who I had actually gotten over, but kept going back to because the streets have nothing left to offer.  So again, in this 2022, as a single black woman, my mission has been set by my family. To find a husband.

If you are dateable, hit me up. I at least have a job, I workout, I am educated and fun… and I drink (read fuck).
