The Beauty Industry’s New Name: Linda Jangulo

Born and raised in Zambia, Linda Jangulo is a mother to three boys and passionate business owner and co-founder of MsLondon Cosmetics, Miss Salon London Morningside and Parkhurst. She also happens to be one of the most beautiful people you will ever meet, striking features and a lean model frame.

She is also a shareholder of The Good Mineral. Nounouche had the pleasure of chatting to her to find out about what drives her and what inspired her entrepreneurial journey.

“What defines me is my authenticity. None of my life connections are formed based on expected gain from the relationship, be it in my personal life or business dealings. I always take pride in presenting as my true self,” Jangulo said.

Speaking on what inspired her entry into the beauty industry, she cited life’s synchronicities as playing a big part in her path.

“I honestly was looking for adult conversations while my kids were at school, here I am 12 yrs later still going and still loving it,” she said.

Despite her love for her profession, Jangulo maintains that she did not imagine being a pioneer in the field.

“For those that know me intimately, I am a laid back, private person, to think I would be part of something with such acclaim tied to my name was not on the radar,” she said.

Her journey, like many, has not been without stumbling blocks.

“Without the inclusion of Covid-19, the major challenges have been managing human relations (staff) and bureaucracy, Jangulo said.

“Overtime we’ve learnt not to take it personal when staff leave or show no loyalty to the brand as this is part of the evolution process. When it comes to policies and or organizations that monitor small business, we try to ensure we have dotted our I’s and crossed our T’s.

Jangulo also emphasises how important it is to stay informed and knowledgeable with an absolute like VAT, PAYE etc – “they do catch up with you,” she says.

Upon reflection on business owners in the same industry who have walked a similar journey, Jangulo tells us that she would need more than a snapshot in order to be more honest in the reflection.

“Unfortunately with social media we get the highs of their journey and so we chase the high with no concept of challenges/obstacles that happen.

Jangulo recalls a conversation with two fellow female entrepreneurs whom she could relate to.

“We each shared either a challenge we’ve encountered or heard of and at the end we all agreed it feels so relieving to share our experiences in honest terms and not the usual, superficial “business is good.

“The worst is thinking ‘what am I doing wrong’ and ‘feeling stuck’ and my feeling as though ‘my business is working,’ she said.

Despite the challenges, Jangulo maintains that she feels motivated to better and excel even further.

“We are starting to understand that business isn’t always in a ‘state of high’, therefore we are able to get back up when knocked down and acknowledge that it takes time to succeed,” Jangulo shared.

Apart from beauty, Jangulo has a particular interest in fashion and fitness.

“These are two very important components in my life. I strongly believe that I express myself through my dress sense and body image. Even in Gym clothes you’ll notice a funky element added.

“I sometimes wear two different color sneakers, which I find super dope. Regarding fitness I am obsessed to the point where I even work out at home and I believe when I feel good it shows outward through my dressing.

Jangulo says that being in the beauty industry has taught her that most conversations centre around clothes, makeup and fitness.

“I love that am able to inspire other woman to make changes to their lifestyles, because at the end of the day it is a lifestyle,” she says.

The mother to what she refers to as ‘three handsome young men’ describes her motherhood journey and her bond with her sons as strong.

“At some point I only ever identified as a mother. I’ve always been their primary caregiver and nurturer,” she said.

Despite motherhood not having always been easy, she thanks God for being blessed with her amazing kids.

I have a son diagnosed autistic and that took its toll due to the intense interventions we tried to ensure he had a fair/equal chance in school and life as a whole.

“Life also dealt me a blow 7 years ago when I became widowed and so full responsibility fell squarely on my shoulders, but through God’s faithfulness we were able to keep going without much disruption,” Jangulo said.

Q&A with Miss Salon London herself:

What’s one thing you would do differently in your journey thus far?

Nothing because everything I have done has been my true authentic self and so I feel I it has all been part of my journey.

What are three things you wish you knew earlier in your career?

Like in life everything has a season, Not to take things in business personal and not to second-guess myself.

What message of hope would you give to your younger self and those to come after you?

Hope! Hope is all around us but we need to keep our head up to see it. Don’t give up because no one knows what is around the corner. It always works out the way it is meant to.

I have faced many challenges in my own personal life, but this needs its own story, maybe even a book, but the point is I always keep my head up and my faith strong.

Its on to the next for Miss Jangulo as she shares below with us some of her exciting new ventures:
