Luna Elle: Blending Genres, Embracing Roots, and Captivating Audiences Worldwide

In recent years, Canada has produced an array of exceptional music stars, all of whom have forged remarkable careers. The emerging generation of artists are establishing their unique sound and gaining global recognition, with R&B sensation Luna Elle standing out prominently.

Born and raised in Mississauga, Ontario, to a Ghanaian mother and a Canadian father, Luna has embraced her African roots within her music over the years, releasing songs such as “Crazy,” produced by UK-based DJ Kwamzy and Durban, South Africa-based Tonic Motion.

“When you’re listening to amapiano, you’re not really thinking about things. You’re thinking about the beat; you’re thinking about how good the song feels. You’re not thinking about what happened today or what you’re going through at that moment,” Luna shares as she speaks about Amapiano, which has taken the world by storm since the global pandemic in 2020.

Her musical influences include the R&B greats of her younger years and today, such as Brandy, Toni Braxton, Jazmine Sullivan, and Beyoncé. In 2021, after her debut EP, L.O.V.E (Loss Of Valuable Energy) EP, Luna’s voice drew the attention of NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal, Alie Gatie, and others. Dubbed as being “next up,” Luna Elle has set her sights on broadening her musical horizons by dabbling in the realms of RnB and Amapiano.

In a recent exclusive interview with Luna Elle, the rising star opened up about the creative processes behind her releases, “Tempo” and “9 to 5.” Luna Elle’s unique blend of RnB, Afrobeats, and Amapiano has been gaining attention, which has allowed her to build up fans outside of Canada.

“It was kind of getting into the summertime, you know, and I was feeling a little more upbeat and less sad just because the seasons were changing. I really do love my roots, my Ghanaian roots. I wanted to make like a little bit of Afrobeats, and I didn’t want to just drop the African side, you know? In the past, I made a song called “Crazy,” and then “Tempo” was kind of a follow-up, even though it’s not the same genre, there are similarities, and I thought it was really fitting, and I love African music, so I thought I’d try it out,” Luna shares as she speaks about the creative process of one of her songs, Tempo.

Discussing the “Tempo” music video, Luna Elle shared that it was her favorite so far, highlighting the infectious energy and vibrant atmosphere on set. She reminisced about the joyous vibe, the dancing, and the moments that made her question certain scenes, trusting the director’s vision.

Luna Elle acknowledged some challenges, especially with dancing, but overall, the experience left her with a sense of accomplishment. When questioned about the difficulties in writing “Tempo,” Luna Elle admitted that crafting the chorus was challenging. She emphasized her preference for meaningful lyrics in RnB but acknowledged that the catchy and vibe-oriented nature of the chorus worked well for the song. Luna Elle discussed the struggle with overthinking and shared how she learned to overcome insecurities in her writing process.

Reflecting on her growth, Luna Elle acknowledged the challenges of balancing music with school and soccer but revealed that overcoming stressful situations had strengthened her. Graduating and taking a break from school allowed her to focus on her music and personal development. She emphasized the importance of managing stress and learning to trust oneself.

Describing herself as chill, quirky, and funny, Luna Elle touched on her personality traits.

She highlighted her preference for a laid-back approach to life and revealed the positive impact of soccer on her overall well-being. Luna Elle imparted valuable advice to her fans, emphasizing the importance of self-trust and taking risks, especially in pursuing artistic endeavors. She encouraged her followers to believe in themselves even when faced with doubt from others.

Luna’s latest release “Certainty of life” has been described by some as her own impression of legendary R&B artist Sade. Upon first listen, it’s easy to see the comparisons between the two, but Luna has done more than enough to earn the comparisons with her catalog of music.

“Certainty of life” comes soon after the release of her latest album “Ms Elle,” which has received great reviews from other media outlets, continuing to prove that Luna’s ability to capture an audience with her music is growing with each release. It’s only a matter of time when the world starts to take notice.
