Eugene Khoza Is Back & Funnier!

This past weekend we joined a throng of people that queued to get into the Lyric Theatre for what was to be one of the best comedy shows. Eugene Khoza is back in the scene and he didn’t disappoint. After a five year hiatus that was largely categorised by loss and finding the light within himself, Eugene states that the he is back on stage to honour and celebrate the memory of loved ones. He also believes that the love from his fans brought him back just as much he had also missed the stage.

Eugene lost his son and one of his close friends Moyikwa Sisulu and that led to his noticeable disappearance from the comedy scene. He cites Moyikwa as the first producer to believe in him, giving him his big break on television after seeing him perform at a comedy club.

It took him three months to perfect his set and seeing how elated the crowed was with his growth, effort and delivery was the cherry on top for this Pretoria-born star. It’s also good to note that he too was having just as much fun as the audience, with his multiple animated voices narrating the seemingly boring lives of married people and how vicious side chicks can be. He dragged married men for filth!!!

As one of the OGs of comedy, Eugene recognises the growth of the comedy scene in South Africa and celebrates the new voices. He believes that with a little more effort, the scene will be even better.

He is grateful for the support of his fans and encourages them to follow his tour as he announces new show dates. When asked about how he responds to a rather difficult audience that doesn’t seem to respond as well, he said “keep it moving and I give the people what they want, I’m blessed to have an open minded audience, we thank God. For the fans following the tour it’s just going to be this set for the show, because you have to give everyone a chance to experience the set as other people did, new show end of next year 2023

Eugene is currently working on a documentary film called A Comic’s Journey, it will follow him for a year starting a brand new set, working it for a year, in 3 different countries, ending up in a new one hour special. He has also just wrapped a brand new show premiering on Mzansi Magic in mid January, and of course the tour throughout the year.
