Cassper Nyovest’s Album Solomon Redefines Hip-Hop!

On September 14th, the South African sensation Cassper Nyovest electrified Monte Casino with a spectacular launch event for his highly-anticipated album, Solomon. Emerging from a two-year album hiatus, he’s returned to the scene, reshaping the very essence of hip-hop culture. Fresh off his and Nasty C’s trailblazing “African Throne” tour, Cassper Nyovest has unleashed his seventh studio masterpiece. This album marks a foray into uncharted musical territories, firmly establishing him as a trailblazer in the ever-evolving South African hip-hop scene.

The internet has been buzzing since the 11-track album Solomon dropped on the 15th of September. Cassper affirms that Solomon is his most personal album. Right from the get-go with his opening track “Bashimane”, the album invites listeners to embark on a musical odyssey. Solomon stands as a showcase for Nyovest’s growth and experience as the singer notes he has developed as an artist and human in the last few years since his last release. Speaking about that artistic evolution, he shares “My body of work always touches on where I come from. I made this album not thinking about the numbers but solely expressing myself.”

Going back to the basics, Cassper says the whole album was made on a farm and shares why he decided to call his album Solomon. “Initially, the album was called Grootman because I felt like I was in my Grootman era. We were on a farm for three weeks, with no internet, no social media and disconnected from everything when one of my teammates jokingly suggested that I name my album Solomon after the biblical King Solomon. The picture on the album cover was taken in an actual church,” Cassper explains.

His lead single, “018,” featuring Maglera Doe Boy, dropped on September 7th and has since garnered a resounding nod of approval. It stands as a testament to his undeniable musical genius. With his song “Ever Changing Times”, Cassper explains that the album was released so late because they had some issues with clearing the sample from the Aretha Franklin song released 10 years ago with the same name. Moving at a steady pace, Nyovest dedicates a song to the late Kiernan Forbes (AKA) called “Candle Light” which remains richly poignant within its simplicity. He shares that it’s one of the “most important songs in his career.”

Then “Blow Your Lungs” closes the album with a visceral injection of winning, chronicling a tale of starting from the bottom and reaching the tipping point of his career — wrapping things up with the sort of fervent authenticity which has put him on the map. “I’ve been at the top for ten years straight,” he says on “Blow Your Lungs” and we agree.
