#TravelTuesday: Here’s Where You Can Go Hiking!

Hiking is great for mind, body and soul. It is the perfect way to marvel at natural beauty as you enjoy some fresh air, while also working on your fitness goals.

South Africa has many trails which are truly a hiker’s dream. They provide much revitalization and the chance to absorb breathtaking natural charm.

Whether you’re considering a Saturday morning hike, or would love to pack your hiking boots for your next sho’t left, here’s where you can go hiking:

Cradle Moon Lakeside Game Lodge
It goes without saying that the Cradle Moon hike is one of Johannesburg’s most scenic hikes. The 10km trail takes you around a dam flanked by a gorgeous and Insta-worthy dam wall. Smaller trails are also available for those who desire them. When on your hike, be on the lookout for some wildlife which you’re likely to encounter.

Robberg Hiking Trail
The Robberg Hiking Trail is one of the Western Cape’s most popular and extremely scenic trails. It is a circular trail along the Robberg Peninsula and offers different variations and lengths for different kinds of hikers. The longest trail can take up to 4 hours or more. Although this hike is found to be a bit challenging by many, the views and experience are undoubtedly worth it.

Lion’s Head
Offering a steep but short climb to the top, Lion’s Head is one of Cape Town’s most loved hikes. Although the steep nature of the hike makes it breathtaking in both the literal and figurative sense, it is worth the try.

The best time to hike Lion’s Head is in the morning when you can catch the gorgeous sunrise over a cup of coffee from your flask. The views of the sunset are nothing short of magical either.

The Amatola Trail
Very long and very challenging, the Amatola trail offers beauty that makes all the sweat worth it. On this hike, you will find waterfalls, rock pools and sweet panoramic views of the valley below. The hike ends at Hogsback which also boasts a kind of beauty that is out of this world.

Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve
Being the largest nature reserve in Johannesburg, Klipriviersberg is a popular escape. At the reserve, hikers are spoilt to 12 hiking trails which all differ in length and difficulty. You can also enjoy views of the lush surrounding hills. As you hike, look out for animals and bird life along the way. You’re likely to spot antelopes, dassies, zebras and eagles.

The reserve also has some rich history which you can immerse yourself in by viewing stone-age artifacts.
