Recently, afro pop star Nomfundo Moh dropped the tracklist to her second studio album Ugcobo. We caught up with her at the Nomfundo Moh and Friends pre-release listening session.
The Phakade Lami hit maker is set to be releasing her highly anticipated sophomore album titled Ugcobo. Ugcobo loosely translates means; The Anointing. The singer-songwriter shared that the title of her new album was largely influenced by her childhood and church values. “Ugcobo for me means having a higher sacred purpose. My very first platform where I got to perform in front of an audience was church. I thought it’s about time I reflect back to where everything began while also acknowledging where I am at this very moment. Ugcobo is a note to self that I’m no longer where I was and that now there’s a bigger purpose for me,” Nomfundo said. On her newly released single Amalobolo featuring Big Zulu, Nomfundo takes listeners back to the 80s. The singer has continued to serve us her beautiful vocals. The song has been receiving a nod from fans, building momentum for the upcoming album.
Now 23 years old, Nomfundo Moh, born Nomfundo Ngcobo hailing from Ndwendwe, KwaZulu Natal. She broke into the the industry with her gold-certified breakout single Phakade Lami from her debut album Amagama. Her approach to music showcases the evolution of her skills and potent blend of talents. “If there’s one thing that I love embracing openly is love. With that said, the whole album is a collection of songs about love, and the process of healing through the pains that come with love and growth. The making of the album was invigorating and I’m excited that I’ll be sharing different parts of me with each song,” the multi talented musician said.
The renowned musician has garnered a decent following on social media. One of her fans said, “patiently waiting for the album to heal us.” This goes to confirm that what Ngcobo refers to as the shadowy silhouette of herself is considered to be an element of healing through music.
