5 Skincare Tips for the Winter Season

As the winter months tighten their grip on us, we’re trading golden hour drinks for cozy nights indoors. Many of us have started to notice our skin suffering from the merciless effects of the cold weather. The winds are harsher and the low humidity may leave our skin feeling dry, tight, and irritated. To combat these seasonal changes your skin needs a little extra help with hydration and nourishment. Here are some professional suggestions for maintaining radiant skin during the long winter months.

1. Use a thicker moisturiser

Moisturise regularly to lock in the moisture, using a thicker, oil-based moisturiser.

Dry winter air may cause your skin to lose some of its natural hydration. Use a heavier, oil-based moisturiser that offers a strong shield from the weather. To seal in the moisture, apply it immediately after cleansing your face or taking a shower.

2. Go easy on the cleansing

Use a gentle, hydrating cleanser that won’t deplete your skin’s natural oil.

Avoid products with strong sulfates. Choose a gentle, hydrating cleanser that removes impurities without depleting your skin’s natural oils. In the winter, harsh cleansers with alcohol or sulfates can be damaging, so search for products that are labelled as gentle or moisturising.

3. Humidify your indoor air

Indoor heating systems can potentially further reduce air moisture, exacerbating dry skin problems. Investing in a humidifier in your home adds moisture to the air and can help maintain indoor humidity levels. It provides your skin with the much-needed moisture it needs and keeps it from drying out.

4. Protect your skin with sunscreen

When going outdoors, don’t forget to apply sunscreen. Even in the winter, UV radiation can be harmful to the skin. Every time you step outside, apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 to any exposed areas. Keep in mind that extreme cold can reflect UV light, increasing your exposure. Therefore wearing scarves, gloves, and hats helps limit  your exposure to UV light

5. Hydrate!

Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated from the inside out. Drinking herbal teas and meals with high water content can contribute to your hydration levels. Drink water intentionally. What you put inside matters just as much as what you put on your skin when it comes to hydration. Drink plenty of water throughout the day to keep your skin hydrated from the inside.

It’s possible to keep your skin hydrated and healthy throughout winter by implementing these tips into your daily routine. Enjoy the beauty of winter with radiant skin while staying warm and well hydrated.
